Stories are important. They nourish our imagination, fill our dreams, entertain and inspire us.
Openstorytellers Sensory Book Clubs bring classic works of literature to life for people who wouldn’t normally be able to access them.
We use sights, sounds, smells, textures and, of course, storytelling to tell classic tales like Oliver Twist, Treasure Island and Romeo & Juliet in a multi-sensory way.
Openstorytellers Sensory Book Clubs are suitable both for people with moderate to profound disabilities and can help:
- Reduce the isolation of people with learning disabilities
- Encourage memory and recall through the use of sounds, smells and familiar voices
- Participants to experience feelings and emotions in a safe environment using fiction
- Encourage participants to engage with the wider community, attend other events and make friends
