Every month young people with learning disabilities meet up to learn new creative skills and have fun together with Openstorytellers. Members have the opportunity to make music, songs, films, crafts and of course do a bit of dancing and make new friends! We sometimes invite local artists to the session so members can learn creative skills they might not usually have access to. We’ve had many brilliant artists attend in the past, including Howard Vause, who helped us create the wonderful video below.
Friends Meet Up is not only beneficial for the members who get to have a few hours hanging out with their friends, but also for parents who’d like to have a little time to themselves. Parents who care full time for their adult child can relax knowing that they are in the safe hands of an experienced group – and having lots of fun!
What is FMU all about? Well, what we need is a theme song that lets you know… now where can I find one of those? Wait a sec, here it is!!
The Friends Meet Up gang joined Ben Waller and his Loops Music Project gear in writing a song for the group. Played on Wii drums, wii guitar, Skoog, iPad and a whole host of other stuff, everything you hear here (except the beat, which we jumped off from) was created by the FMU members, good stuff indeed!
FMU costs only £5 per session. If you or someone you know would like to get involved, feel free to email [email; address=”firstname.lastname@example.org”] or call 01373 454099 to find out more.
