The Bardic Chair Storytelling Competition
The Annual Bardic Chair Storytelling Competition is now proudly hosted by Openstorytellers. It celebrates ‘Samhain’ and the changing of the seasons, taking place in the Autumn. Storytellers will be relating tall tales, ghost stories, myths and legends in a bid to take their seat on the Bardic Chair of Frome. It is open to anyone with a story to tell and we are thrilled to present this year’s event in association with Mr Rook’s Speakeasy at Rook Lane Chapel in Frome.
This year’s competition will be hosted by Openstorytellers patron and first ever Storytelling Laureate, Taffy Thomas. However, the term competition is misleading as the winner is chosen at random through the drawing of lots. The chair, however is real enough although it has it’s own story to tell. Tragedy struck when the original willow Bardic Chair succumbed to woodworm but with the help and wonderful skill of the Frome Mens Shed, we have a new chair, handmade with local wood from Longleat Forest.
