The Bardic Chair Storytelling Competition 2015 was the best yet. We were thrilled to present this year’s event in association with Mr Rook’s Speak Easy and to be able to host the event at the wonderful Rook Lane chapel in Frome. We were even more delighted when our patron and first ever Storytelling Laureate, Taffy Thomas MBE agreed to host the event for us.
In the weeks leading up to the event though, we had one small problem, our wonderful Bardic Chair which is a real chair hand-made from willow, had developed a rather serious case of wood worm! We were faced with having no chair to win! Luckily Frome is full of wonderful community full of people willing to help; The Mens Shed came to our rescue. They sourced wood from the neighbouring Longleat
forest and made us a beautiful new chair fitting of the occasion.

On the night we were thrilled with stories from around the world, from Japan to Cornwall. Taffy was a
great host, keeping us entertained with anecdotes and tales from his ‘tale’ coat. The Openstorytellers team were delighted that our first patron, Nick Hennessey was able to join us and tell. Nick has been our patron for many years but busy schedules mean we don’t get to see him too often so the team were thrilled to share stories with him.
We’re already planning next year’s event so we’ll keep you posted!
