Taffy Thomas MBE, First Laureate for Storytelling visited Openstorytellers on Monday 19th November. There was an exchange of stories between the Openstorytellers team, and Taffy. The visit was arranged to celebrate storytelling partnerships and as a thanks to the Openstorytellers team to recognise their hard work and achievements over this year.
Storytelling is a vital part of the work Openstorytellers do. It encourages people to gain confidence in themselves, to listen to other peoples experiences and helps make sense of the world around us.
Taffy had a wonderful day with Openstorytellers and said; “It’s wonderful to be back in my home county and to spend time with such an inspiring and enthusiastic organisation. The precious art of storytelling is safe in the hands of these people – proper job!”
Taffy has been telling stories for over 30 years. He held the first ever honorary position of Laureate for Storytelling which ran for two years from January 2010 to January 2012. He is a patron for the Society of Storytelling and works extensively with schools and young people around the UK.
