Salisbury Playhouse is pleased to announce it has been awarded just under £3000 to support Openstorytellers’ weekly Multi-Sensory Book Club. Running each Wednesday at the Playhouse, the book club brings classic literature to life through a range of multi-sensory workshops using sight, sounds, touch, smells and taste.
The grant has been awarded by The Community Foundation for Wiltshire & Swindon which provides grants to benefit local communities and to improve the lives of disadvantaged people in Wiltshire and Swindon.
Cindy Moxham, Director of Openstorytellers, says “Openstorytellers are very grateful for the grant from Wiltshire & Swindon Community Foundation which, together with funding from South Wilts Mencap, means our successful Multi-Sensory Book Club at Salisbury Playhouse will continue. The Multi-Sensory Book Club helps people with profound and complex needs to be immersed in wonderful classic stories such as Around the World in Eighty Days or Romeo & Juliet using sights, sounds, scents, taste and touch. We are proud to work with Salisbury Playhouse to help people with different needs access the arts in their community.”
Mark Powell, Associate Director of Salisbury Playhouse says “We are delighted that this project can continue. It is an important chance for a neglected sector of our community to engage with classic literature, to experience the power of language and to explore lives, times and experiences different to their own.”
